Presto 02811 12-Cup Stainless Steel Coffeemaker

Product Description

Amazon.com Review

One of the most comforting sounds in the world is the bubbling of a coffee percolator at work. And then comes the toasty aroma--it makes for a perfect morning. Percolators have come back to home kitchens, and the Presto 12-cup stainless steel coffee maker is a prime example. Its elegant, hotel-style design brings a touch of luxury to what is for many a daily pleasure.

This coffee maker brews up to twelve cups of coffee at a cup-a-minute rate, which it then keeps at a constant, piping-hot serving temperature. An indicator light in the base announces when the coffee is ready. The inner fixtures--the filter basket and perk tube--are also made of stainless steel, rather than the more common (and less durable) aluminum. The power cord is removable to make storage simple.

Before cleaning the coffee maker, unplug the unit and allow it to cool completely. Wash the coffee maker with warm, sudsy water and dry it thoroughly; it is not immersible. To preserve the gloss of the stainless steel, do not use steel wool or harsh, abrasive cleansers. The perk spout and filter basket can be cleaned with a brush or pipe cleaner. If necessary, coffee stain remover can be used periodically on the interior surface. The coffee maker measures 10 by 5 by 13 inches (including handle, lid, and spout). Presto guarantees this product with a one-year limited warranty. A simple instruction sheet is enclosed. --Garland Withers

5.0 out of 5 stars A Couple of Tips, August 29, 2008
This review is from: Presto 02811 12-Cup Stainless Steel Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
First of all, the reason we bought this is because, in general, percolators make great tasting coffee. They can turn even the worst quality beans into a good cup of coffee. Initially, the Presto lived up to our expectations. And after doing the following, it is once again making great cups of coffee.

Tip #1 - Grind your coffee using the appropriate setting.

After some usage, we would at times get a mouthful of grinds. We realized it was important to use the percolator setting on the coffee grinder at the supermarket. Since then, an occasional coffee grind finds its way into our cup.

Tip #2 - Clean the filter basket with a brush.

Despite cleaning the pot before each usage, the coffee was gradually getting weaker each day. We then realized that the holes in the bottom of the filter basket were clogged. We could not unclog them using a sponge so I started poking each one individually with a toothpick before deciding there was no... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Simplicity, May 2, 2007

I've used every type of coffee maker around. I look for all stainless- that means NO plastic or aluminum contacting the water----this has been a great product for me--I love perked coffee. When I'm not using this I use a Cona glass vacuum maker--- I'm a purist about materials and coffee making. Presto has been the most reliable of all my electric percs. It's all stainless.

I thought my Hamilton Beach percolator was decent for the price, I even wrote a review about it in December, 2006. One week later, this 1-year old coffee maker was barely keeping the coffee hot. Then I visited my son in Alaska at Christmas and noticed that his 6-yr old Presto percolator was still delivering great, hot coffee in record time. I returned home, ordered my Presto 12-cup percolator and am highly impressed. It's lighter, easier to load, easier to pour, easier to clean, perks ultra-fast and makes a great, hot cup of coffee. Because of its lighter stainless steel pot, it cools down faster if you want to make a second batch of coffee right away. (We make two pots and pour the first batch into a thermos for back-up when company comes) Based on its performance, I'm surprised the price is so reasonable.

I have tried them all...all the brands on Amazon, that is. Some have been less than thrilling and some pretty good. The Senseo Espresso Coffee Pods are the best I have found. You can make a great cup of coffee...I wouldn't really call it espresso with the convenience of a pod. I read a tip somewhere on Amazon about wetting both sides of the pod and it was the best tip I got in 2008. The resulting coffee is rich and full flavored, without bitterness. I think I will stick with Senseo Espresso. I did not use the special espresso pod, just the usual one pod holder, and it worked fine.

From all the original Senseo Coffee Pods, I like this variety best.

I follow the rules and prepare it using the Senseo HD7003 Espresso Pod Holder - that means it will be a smaller cup (not really as little as an Italian Espresso shot), but you can always use your regular Pod Holder, if that is too strong for you.

The prepared coffee has a nice Crema and great taste. In the morning I heat some milk in the microwave and whip it using an Aerolatte Frother to make a very quick Cappuccino - the way I like it :)

These pods are excellent. They are great hot or cold. I did not purchase the special pod holder; I believe the regular single pod is just fine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Kitchen Addition!!!, December 3, 2010
This review is from: BUNN MC MyCafe Single Serve Pod Brewer (Kitchen)
I recently purchased this brewer and I am still amazed at how quick and easy it is to use. It is small and sleek enough to keep on my kitchen counter, and it's been a conversation piece! Everyone wants to see how it works and falls in love with it. It is very quiet, fast, and brews a really great cup of coffee. It's amazing how this small and simple machine can extract so much flavour from the pods. Another aspect that I love is that it is almost instant hot water for tea, hot chocolate, or soup. The water comes out piping hot in minutes if the machine's been idle - about 30 seconds if it hasn't been, and it saves me from having to rummage for the old kettle and wait for it to come to a boil.

I have heard that for some, pouring water in the brewer each time you want a cup took some getting used to, but this is another aspect I love - regardless of whether I want a quick tea before work in a small mug, or a coffee or even soup in one of my huge mugs if I'm going to laze... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Wonderful!!, December 13, 2010
By
This review is from: BUNN MC MyCafe Single Serve Pod Brewer (Kitchen)
I purchased mine from Reunion Island (reunionislandcoffee.com) before it was available on Amazon, and they included about a dozen pods (including a couple of tea samples) from various companies.

I've only had this machine for 3 or 4 days now, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I've always hated throwing away pots of coffee from my Cuisinart (and the 10 other coffee pots I've tried) that were still half full because they tasted lackluster and were invariably bitter from staying on the burner too long.

This is perfect for one or two people. I can make 1 cup at a time, which is delivered at a temperature of 200 degrees, and I can choose from a huge assortment of pods and on-line companies (try The Coffee Artisan at thecoffeeartisan.com) while feeling at ease that I'm not adding to the landfills. Love that I can use a travel mug too.

It's inexpensive to buy the pods, which if you only drink about two cups a day comes out to 39 cents a cup over... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic brewer, December 2, 2010

Pat "Sci-fi fan" (Sarnia, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: BUNN MC MyCafe Single Serve Pod Brewer (Kitchen)
I've had this brewer for a few days now and I feel it rivals any top of the line pod brewer. The coffee it brewers is tasty and very hot. I like the fact that it has a stainless steel tank. As indicated by another reviewer the only downside is the fact that there is no water tank resevoir but you quickly get use to it. It has good clearance for a travel mug and the grill is removable for an even taller cup. One of my better recent purchases.
